The
Bush Inn, in Upper Cwmbran is a warm and welcoming pub situated
on the
mountainside above Cwmbran.
The proximity to
Cwmbran Brewery has made this popular hillside pub the unofficial
brewery tap. A split-level interior
provides a natural
divide between the bar and a charming
lower room, styled as a cottage parlour. This has a dresser with
crockery and other
artefacts on display. A comfy sofa with candles on the tables complete
a cosy scene. On a
clear day the small patio at the front gives superb views across
to the severn Estuary.
Little is known about
the history of the Bush, its is thought that the pub originally
consisted
of two cottages which were linked to form the existing premises.
The Bush is shown on an 1860's OS map together with the now demolished
Crown. There
is an Inn shown
on an 1830's map, but it is not known as the whether this relates
to The
Bush or The Crown.
The Bush, The Crown,
The Squirrel (at the Square - now demolished) and The Queen
were used by workers at the
adjacent quarry, mine and brickyards, now defunct.
Popular saying at the time: The
Queen lost her Crown in the Bush |
